What I thought would be an interview with Würk COO Deborah Saneman a little over a week ago turned out to be something quite different, an interview with the company’s incoming CEO, who happens to be the same person. It was the best of both worlds for me as long as I could stick to the news embargo, which ended this week with the official announcement that Saneman would assume the reins from Scott Kenyon later this month. Kenyon, who joined Würk in 2018 and was appointed chief executive in 2021 following the passing of founder & CEO Keegan Peterson, will remain executive chairman of the SAAS-based human capital management (HCM) company, which was profiled last year by Cannabis Business Executive.
Saneman, a CPA and HCM veteran with experience in many different industries, was herself lured to Würk by Kenyon. “Scott actually had reached out to me just about two years ago with all of the changes that were happening at Würk. He had just come into the CEO position and was looking to reshape the leadership team,” said Saneman. With her experience in process, improvement, efficiencies, scalability, as well as vendor partnerships, Saneman was the perfect choice to oversee what she called an “expansion of the Würk marketplace to complement the services that Würk was already offering in core payroll, time, and HR. What we have been focused on in the past two years has been expanding integration partners and really helping to normalize the cannabis industry by giving it access to quality vendors and partners that it traditionally has not had access to.”
