Challenge

  • The company was drowning in paperwork and manually entering data and employee files into their payroll system.
  • There was a lag in processing time while waiting for their vendor to respond.
  • Disparate systems caused extra manual entry, producing a need for extra headcount to handle the workload.
  • They had difficulty with customizing the system to work for their needs, and it was difficult to pull reports, navigate views, etc.

Solution

Wurk’s fully-integrated, all-inclusive Human Capital Management (HCM) software enables Halo Collective to manage the entire employee lifecycle—from hiring to offboarding—within one system, eliminating unnecessary paperwork and giving the company full autonomy over their payroll and HR process.

Benefits

  • A comprehensive, fully-integrated HR and payroll platform in a single database, providing easy access to employee data and reporting.
  • A reliable payroll partner with a deep understanding of the cannabis industry, giving Halo the ability to pay their employees with direct deposit.
  • Streamlined workflows enabling automation of new employee onboarding, cannabis industry badge capture, performance reviews, and more.
  • Automated payroll management and reporting, and automated tax filing to maximize 280E tax deductions.

Results

Prior to implementing Wurk, Halo Collective was using disparate payroll and HR solutions that did not allow them to have much control over the system. This resulted in Halo having an excessive amount of paperwork, and they had to manually enter this data and new employee files into the payroll system. There was so much paperwork that the company started the process of looking for an extra person just to manage it all.

On top of manually entering data into their system, many of the functions were controlled by their vendor, and this would cause a delay in processing time while their vendor was performing manual checks, determination checks, and finalizing payroll. The system was difficult to navigate, pull reports, and change views, and didn’t allow for the customization that Halo Collective needed as the company grew.

When Chris Evans, Director of Human Resources at Halo was hired to head up the HR and payroll department, he decided to make the switch to an updated, all-inclusive HRIS and payroll system. He was referred to Wurk by a partner, and after looking at the software and seeing how easy it was to navigate, control, and modify the system to their needs, the company made the decision to implement Wurk.

Halo now has 100% control over the system through an employee’s entire lifecycle – from hiring to offboarding and everything in between.

Wurk enables Halo to eliminate unnecessary paperwork associated with onboarding employees, so there was no need to add additional headcount to manage paperwork. When a new employee is hired, the Wurk system automatically generates an email to that employee with a link for them to complete their entire onboarding process within Wurk, including the e-verification process.

It was important for Halo to have a vendor that allowed for direct deposit and with banking partners across multiple states. Wurk has built relationships with banks and financial institutions across the United States that enable cannabis businesses like Halo to offer their employees reliable, consistent paychecks through direct deposit with no risk of being dropped.

The platform also includes time-saving automated payroll management, reporting, and tax filing to maximize 280E deductions.

HR & Payroll Services

When Chris decided to leave the company, he wanted to ensure his employees were in good hands, which is why Halo made the decision to implement Wurk’s Managed HR and Payroll Services instead of outsourcing to a new vendor.
